DCCF Awards $50,000 in Grants to Local Organizations
The Daviess County Community Foundation awarded two $25,000 grants Thursday to Daviess Community Hospital and Southwest Indiana Powerhouse.
The grants will be used for one time support of projects addressing human services and/or education issues in Daviess County.
Both awards are made possible from a grant from the Smithville Charitable Foundation to the Daviess County Community Foundation.
Daviess Community Hospital will work with various community partners on an initiative to address teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases in Daviess County.
Southwest Indiana PowerHouse plans to use its grant to construct a shop to provide space for their reCYCLE bike program and their wood shop.
The PowerHouse wood shop has been in operation for over a year teaching a variety of students woodworking skills.
The PowerHouse reCYCLE bike program has worked with students for the past 5 years to repair, restore, or customize bicycles for personal use or to give to those in need.
PowerHouse officials say that both programs primarily involve at-risk teens in grades 7-12 in Washington and surrounding areas.
