Court Stays Decision Striking Down Indiana's Gay Marriage Ban

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals is halting same-sex marriage in Indiana.

State Attorney General Greg Zoeller says it's necessary because same-sex marriages may prove to have no basis in law.

He adds its premature to require Indiana to overturn a ban on same-sex marriage since the Supreme Court hasn't ruled such bans unconstitutional.

Earlier, Judge Richard Young overturned the state's ban on same-sex marriage.

Since the earlier ruling, some Indiana officials had begun issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Friday's decision puts gay marriages on hold.
