Chikungunya Virus Found in Indiana



A virus transmitted by mosquitoes has been found in Indiana.

State Health Department officials say an Allen County resident tested positive for Chikungunya.

The virus has been found on islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, Africa and Asia.

The virus is often non-fatal, but symptoms include high fever, joint pain, headache, muscle pains, or a rash.

It cannot be passed person to person, but can be spread through an infected mosquito.

The Allen County resident had recently visiting the Caribbean.
