Teaching Credential Change Criticized

A coalition of Indiana education groups is speaking out on a controversial move by the Indiana State Board of Education.

Indiana State Teachers Association President Teresa Meredith says board members are making it too easy for people with "a college degree and good GPA" to get teaching credentials.

Meredith says the board voted 6-5 to approve a provision that allows those seeking teaching licenses in Indiana to get certified without practical classroom experience.

Meredith says the move dilutes teacher quality and simply goes against good judgment about teaching standards.
