2016 Deadline Set For Delayed Terre Haute Bypass
The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded the contract for the final section of the new bypass around Terre Haute, giving the project a fall 2016 completion deadline more than a decade after work started.
The Indiana 641 bypass is to go about 6 miles linking Interstate 70 and U.S. 41 around the city's southeast side.
State highway department spokeswoman Debbie Calder tells the Tribune-Star that the $47 million contract for the project's final phase was awarded this week to Beaty Construction Inc. of Boggstown.
That phase will include linking the I-70/Indiana 46 interchange into the bypass.
Work first started on the $150 million project in 2003, but progress has faced several delays, including termination of a contract with a contractor.
