State denies Dugger’s request for Charter School

The Indiana Charter School Board voted Thursday to turn down Dugger Union Community School Corporation's request for a charter.

Dugger residents made the request after the Northeast Sullivan County School Corporation voted to close Dugger's elementary and high schools in a budget-cutting move.

Charter School Board members say the application lacked necessary information due to the short time since it was proposed.

The charter schools would have opened this fall.

A motion to grant Dugger a conditional charter died for lack of a second.

Charter school supporters can reapply later this year.
