Construction to Begin on State Road 61 Project
State highway officials say the State Road 61 reconstruction project in Monroe City will get underway soon.
And that means motorists will need to make major adjustments.
The 3 ½ million dollar project includes reconstructing the highway, a new storm water drainage system, gutters, curb ramps and replacing sidewalks from the junction of State Road 241 to the Blue Jeans Center.
Once South Knox Schools dismiss for the summer, crews will close State Road 61 from the junction of State Road 241 to the junction of State Road 57 in Petersburg.
The detour for motorists will include S.R. 241, U.S. 50 and S.R. 57.
Paving is not expected to begin until the spring of 2015.
The overall project completion date is October of next year.
