Metronet says ViaCom Could Pull Programming During Negotiations
Metronet Cable which serves Vincennes is notifying customers that ViaCom could pull its programming during ongoing contract negotiations.
Viacom provides cable programming such as MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and CMT.
Metronet says ViaCom is asking for a rate increase 40 times the rate of inflation for these networks.
Metronet says that’s excessive and has decided to take a stand to protect its customers.
The National Cable Television Cooperative represents Metronet and 750 other cable companies in the ViaCom negotiations.
The cooperative has asked ViaCom to continue to provide its programs at the current rate while discussions continue.
However, Metronet says Viacom could decide to pull its programming from Metronet customers on April 1St.
The cable provider says if that happens, it expects Viacom to encourage customers to switch cable companies to put pressure on them.
Metronet says that’s not the answer since it’s not the only cable company facing the problem.
