Pence Preschool Proposal Hits Roadblock

One of Governor Pence‘s top priorities has hit a serious speed bump in the Senate.

Pence took the rare step last week of testifying in person before the Senate Education Committee for a bill to expand financial aid for preschool.

But the panel has scrapped the proposal in favor of a study committee to review funding options for the program and how to assess whether it‘s working.

The House had passed Pence‘s proposal calling for a five-county pilot program, but Senator Luke Kenley says he‘s concerned about costs, which could eventually top a quarter-billion dollars if the aid program is adopted statewide.
