Dugger Residents Want to Keep Closed Schools Open as Charter Schools

A group of Dugger residents have filed paperwork to keep Union Junior-Senior High School and Dugger Elementary open as charter schools.

The Northeast Sullivan School Board voted last month to close the schools due to budget problems and declining enrollment.

School officials say the district will follow state law that requires vacant school buildings be offered to charter schools for one-dollar annual leases.
