Governor Mike Pence is declaring an energy emergency because of the propane shortage. Yesterday, Pence eased the limits on driving hours for propane delivery trucks and ordered regulators to waive fees for overweight trucks carrying propane. He also added five-million dollars to the state's Low Income Housing Assistance Fund that helps homeowners pay energy bills. Meanwhile, Indiana lawmakers have amended legislation to eliminate the tax on some sales of bulk propane. The amendment also would give people credits for past purchases of propane. Those credits are good until March and would be retroactive to January 1st. An estimated 500-thousand Hoosiers use propane to heat their homes.
