Jasper Man Arrested for Drunk Driving in Fatal Accident
Authorities have released the name of a Huntingburg man killed late Friday night when the SUV he was riding in ran off a curve on County Road 400 South and overturned in a water-filled ditch.
A Huntingburg Police Officer and a Dubois County Sheriff's Deputy were unsuccessful in their attempts to free 27-year-old Nicholas Ebert who was trapped in the partially submerged vehicle.
Ebert was extricated from the vehicle by the Huntingburg Fire Department and taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver, 23-year-old Bryan Hakenjos of of Groton, Connecticut and three other passengers escaped serious injury and were able to get out of the vehicle.
Hakenjos, who had a blood-alcohol level of almost twice the legal limit, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated Resulting in a Fatality and Driving Too Fast to Avoid a Collision.
