Heavy snowfall in Sullivan and Vigo counties on Sunday left more than 2,500 WIN Energy REMC members without power. Most outages were caused by heavy wet snow breaking tree limbs and power lines.
All WIN Energy REMC crews worked through the night on Sunday and restored power to over 1,500 members. Additional crews from other cooperatives and contract crews were called in to assist with restoration efforts throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday. By Tuesday morning, there were less than 300 members still without power. All crews continued to work through the day on Tuesday.
As of 7:00 p.m. EST, all know outages have been restored.
Weather and road conditions made power restoration difficult, and the wind and extremely cold temperatures created additional challenges, which slowed down the restoration process. The biggest challenge we faced was getting to the outage locations to fix the problems due to the road conditions.
WIN Energy REMC thanks you for your understanding and patience during this outage restoration process.
WIN Energy REMC is a rural electric cooperative that provides electricity to approximately 16,500 members in Knox, Sullivan, Gibson, Vigo, Pike, Posey, Clay and Greene counties in southwestern Indiana.
