Illinois Lawmakers Summoned To Springfield Despite Lack Of Pension Deal
Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan's office has told lawmakers to return to Springfield December 3rd, but that doesn't mean a pension reform deal is ready for a vote.
Leaders of the Illinois Senate have penciled in a session for December 3rd and 4th as well.
A session on those days would fall after the deadline for filing nominating petitions for next year's election, meaning lawmakers would know what competition they have, if any, as they contemplate a vote on a pension reform plan.
Any pension deal would likely include reduced benefits and higher contributions for future workers, moves that opponents and unions could use in campaign fights.
