Mejeans to Plead Guilty to Wire Fraud
U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett says two former Sullivan County officials will plead guilty to three counts of wire fraud.
51-year-old Frank and 48-year-old Antonnette Mejean were indicted by a federal grand jury in April for allegedly stealing nearly 125-thousand dollars from Jefferson Township in Sullivan County.
Frank Mejean hired his wife to be the Township Clerk and Investigator after he was elected Township Trustee.
Hogsett says together they inflated their salaries, over compensated payment on contracts to each other, and doctored documents to the State Board of Accounts in an effort to cover up the fraud.
If the plea is accepted by a federal judge, the pair face a maximum term of 20 years in prison.
