Former Lawrenceville, Illinois Mayor Brian Straub this week pleaded not guilty plea to drug charges in Lawrence County Circuit Court. Straub was pulled over in October for failing to signal a turn in Lawrenceville. He was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine and hypodermic needles. During a preliminary hearing this week, the deputy who conducted the stop testified and Judge Robert Hopkins found there was probable cause for Straub to stand trial. Straub waived formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty to possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia. Straub served as Mayor of Lawrenceville from 2005 until this April when he was defeated by former City Clerk Don Wagner.
