The Columbia Mine Preserve will open to the public Saturday during a 1:00 PM ceremony. The Princeton Daily Clarion reports the over one-thousand acre property is part of the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge. It was acquired by the Sycamore Land Trust last year. Its opening was delayed due to the federal government shutdown. Rare bird species, river otters, bobcats and bald eagles are among the many animals found in the preserve.
