Ritz Walks Out Of School Board Meeting
State schools Chief Glenda Ritz says Governor Mike Pence is undermining work done by the Department of Education.
On Wednesday, during a discussion on how to develop new academic standards for math and language arts, Ritz abruptly adjourned the meeting and walked out.
Ritz became upset when it was proposed that oversight of career readiness programs be shifted to the Center for Education and Innovation, an agency created by Governor Pence.
Ritz says doing so would be illegal because Indiana law states the process of evaluating academic standards is the responsibility of the Department of Education.
