One Dead, Three Injured in Semi/Van Collision in Washington

A two-year-old boy was killed and three members of his family were injured Tuesday morning when their van was hit by a semi at the intersection of US 50 and State Road 257 in Washington.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department says 42-year-old Patrick Kingrey of Aurora, Missouri was driving his semi westbound on US 50 when he ran a red light at State Road 257.

His semi struck a van that was southbound on 257 driven by 32-year-old Meriam Briggeman of Washington, pushing it into the median.

Two-year-old Noah Briggeman was airlifted to a Bloomington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Meriam Briggeman is being treated for internal injuries at Daviess Community Hospital.

27-year-old Christopher Briggeman was treated for minor injuries and released.

5-year-old Eli Briggeman is being treated for injuries at Daviess Community Hospital.

Authorities say seat belts and child restraints were in use at the time and that the side impact airbags in the van deployed.

Kingrey was cited for Failure to Yield the Right-of-Way.
