Veterans Day: A Simple "Thank You" Will Suffice

Veterans Day concerts, memorials, and parades are scheduled throughout the state of Illinois today to honor the hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans who have sacrificed for their country.

Mike Chrisman with the Illinois National Guard says more than 100 Guard members will participate in events as speakers or in color guards.

After their time spent serving in places like Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, he says veterans are grateful to be recognized for their service.

Chrisman says we’ve been at war for the past 12 years and lot of men and woman have served and are now serving.

He says just to know that the state of Illinois, and the country in general, appreciates what they do is phenomenal, and they appreciate it.

There are more than 13-thousand National Guard members in Illinois.
About 200 are deployed at this time.
