Evansville Mayor Wants To Keep LST 325 Moored In City
Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says keeping the LST 325 moored in Evansville is a top priority.
The World War 2 ship, known as a Landing Ship, Tank, was used in the Normandy landings at Omaha Beach.
Winnecke tells the Evansville Courier & Press there have been negotiations on a new deal with the board of directors for LST 325.
The decommissioned Navy ship's 10-year agreement to moor in Evansville expires in May 2015.
LST spokesman Chris Donahue says Peoria, Illinois and Jeffersonville, Indiana have shown interest.
The ship is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
