Former Meat-Packing Plant to Be Torn Down

The new owner of the fire-damaged ruins of a former Gibson County meat packing plant is moving ahead with plans to demolish buildings at the site.

Jim Pohl of A&T Concrete recently purchased the former Emge plant site in Fort Branch.

He tells the Princeton Daily Clarion work will begin today to clear away rubble and brush, and that demolition of buildings at the site will begin once a state permit is approved.

The former Emge meat-packing plant closed in 1999 after 90 years of operation.

A June 2010 fire heavily damaged the building.

Several businesses operate in intact warehouses at the site, but Pohl says he'll honor their leases until they expire next June.
