Greene Co. Woman Finishes Quilt Started 135 Years Ago

A Greene County woman has finished a quilt started by her husband's great-grandmother before the turn of the century.

Emily Jane Sanders began crafting the quilt by using scraps of her childhood clothes around 1878.

The quilt pieces were never assembled and instead were passed down four generations until they reached Lois Fish, whose husband, Jim, is Sanders' great-grandson.

Lois Fish tells the Greene County Daily World some of the material was fragile and it was a challenge to find fabric to match.

She finally lucked out at an Amish market in Montgomery.

She and her sister worked for hours each day to assemble the quilt pieces into a finished design.
The quilting was done by hand and took about eight months.
