Indiana's new state auditor is also the first black Republican to hold a statewide office. Governor Pence announced the appointment of Dwayne Sawyer to the office during a news conference in the governor's office. The Purdue graduate served as president of the Brownsburg Town Council and has long been active in the Hendricks County Republican Party. Sawyer will be sworn in next Monday and will serve the remainder of Tim Berry's term. Sawyer says he will seek re-election to the post in 2014. Berry left the job to become Indiana's GOP Chairman.
