Evansville Man Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison after Federal Firearms Conviction

A federal judge sentenced an Evansville man to just over nine years in prison following his conviction on a federal firearms charge.

28-year-old Kenneth Schmitt was found guilty by a federal jury in April of illegally possessing an AR-15 rifle as a convicted felon.

Schmitt was also ordered to serve three years of federally-supervised release at the end of his prison term.

Under federal law, defendants must serve a minimum of 85% of their prison sentence inside a federal correctional facility.
