Chase Results in Arrest of Theft Suspect

A Terre Haute man is in custody on theft charges after a police chase in Vermillion County Tuesday morning.

Troopers from Commercial Vehicle Enforcement tried to stop 29-year old Ryan Steadman after a description of his car was broadcast in connection with a theft investigation.

He led Indiana State Police and Vigo, Vermillion and Parke County Sheriff's deputies on a 90 mile hour chase for over an hour.

After crashing his vehicle in Terre Haute, Steadman jumped into the Wabash River.

He was found by a police K-9 in tall weeds on the west side of the river.

Steadman is charged with resisting law enforcement, reckless driving in Vermillion County, and other criminal charges in Parke County.
