Environmental Groups Voice Concerns over Pike Co. Coal Mine

Several environmental groups have filed comments against a permit for a proposed Pike County Coal Mine.

Vigo Coal has asked the Army Corp of Engineers for a clean water act permit to fill 98-thousand feet of streams, 28 acres of open waters and 7 acres of wetlands in and around Pike County at the proposed 15-hundred acre Vigo Sunna Mine to be located near the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge.

The groups say the mine could mean toxic water contamination and threaten wildlife, harm waterways and damage natural resources.
