Illinois Catching Up On Unpaid Bills, For Now

Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka says the state has paid its unpaid bills down to about six billion dollars.

She says that's good news, but nothing to shout about just yet.

Illinois has struggled to pay its vendors for several years now, partly because the state is dishing out so much money to pay its pension obligation each year.

A tax hike was supposed to help fix the problem, but lawmakers have found other ways to spend the additional revenue and very little has actually gone toward the bills.
