Vigo Co. School Supt. Supports Health Care Delay

Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent Dan Tanoos says the delay of a major part of President Barack Obama's historic health care overhaul is "fantastic news" for his employees.

Tanoos tells the Terre Haute Tribune-Star the delay should allow his district to restore support staff work hours that otherwise would have been cut for the upcoming school year.

The Obama administration announced this week a one-year delay of a requirement under which many companies must provide coverage for their workers or face fines.

Vigo Schools had planned to cut bus drivers, instructional aides and cafeteria staff's work hours to 30 or fewer per week in the upcoming school year.

Without those cuts, the district would have had to provide those employees with health insurance.
