Lynnville Woman Injured in Coal Truck Accident

A Lynnville woman is hospitalized in Evansville following a coal truck accident Thursday morning in Pike County.

The truck tipped over on a curve on State Road 61, dumping its load of coal.

The loose coal struck 74-year-old Phyllis Claridge who was walking along the highway with her 75-year-old husband Jerry.

The coal swept her off her feet and pinned her under a fence.

Her husband pulled her out from under the fence and took her to a neighbor's home.

She was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Jerry Claridge escaped injury as did the driver of the coal truck, 28-year-old Adam Benefiel of Petersburg.

Benefiel was cited for speed too fast to avoid a collision.
