The Decker Town Council has set a June 17th public hearing to discuss a privatization of the town's trash service. The session will be held that evening at seven p-m at the Decker Community Center.
Council members and the public are scheduled to be joined by a representative from Republic Hauling. Republic has quoted Decker Council members a near ten-dollar per unit a month fee for City trash removal. Council is also considering use of a curbside tote system similar to one Vincennes is using now. Decker officials are also considering placement of the trash collection fee on City residents' water bill.
The consideration of privatized trash hauling follows a survey where Decker residents overwhelmingly favor a curb-based trash collection. Currently, the city uses a single-collection site, with a charge of three dollars and 50 cents per bag for trash removal.
