Illinois Lawmakers Approve Bill Revamping Sex Education
State lawmakers are voting to revamp sex education in the 6th through the 12th grades in Illinois.
The senate is sending Governor Pat Quinn a bill that requires schools that teach sex ed and to expand the current abstinence based curriculum to also include lessons on contraceptives and sexually transmitted diseases.
The bill is sponsored by Senator Heather Steans (stains) of Chicago who says covering these topics is critical.
If signed into law by the governor, the curriculum will have to be age appropriate and parents can opt to have their child skip the lessons.
