Proposed I-67 Corridor will be a Challenge

A group called Dubois Strong recently committed $10,000 to the Interstate 67 Development Corporation in support of the ongoing effort to establish an Interstate highway corridor through South-Central Indiana.

The proposed interstate highway would include upgrading part of U.S. 231 to interstate standards and building a new 38-mile section of road that would connect to I-69 in Washington.

The group is trying to gain the attention of state highway officials and Congress.

Although the project is not currently on the Indiana Department of Transportation's radar, INDOT Spokeswoman Cher Elliot says there's a chance it could be … after more study.

Elliot says INDOT works with local people to meet the community's needs...

Elliot says funding for projects of this magnitude can be a challenge.

She says a regional project like this is unusual, but INDOT is always ready to entertain new ideas.
