Washington Native Awarded Purple Heart

A Washington native was presented with the Purple Heart medal during a ceremony Thursday morning at the Daviess County Courthouse.

During Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008, Sgt. Bradley Ausbrook suffered a concussion caused by an improvised explosive device which detonated about 10 meters away from his vehicle while his squad was on patrol.

Ausbrook was team leader with D Company, 1st Battalion, 151st Infantry of the Indiana National Guard.

The medal was presented to Ausbrook by Major General Joseph Culver, commanding general of the 38th Infantry Division.
