Human Trafficking Bill Signed by Governor

A bill containing stricter human trafficking restrictions has been signed into law by Governor Mike Pence.

The bill, sponsored by Senators John Waterman of Shelburn and Jim Tomes of Wadesville, makes it illegal to knowingly or intentionally recruit, harbor or transport a child less than 18 years of age with the intent of engaging the child in forced labor or any sexual act.

Current law applies only to a child less than 16 years of age.

The new law takes effect in July.
