Evansville Man Pleads Guilty to Bribery
An Evansville man has pleaded guilty to bribing contracting officials at an Army base in Kuwait.
The Evansville Courier-Press reports Wajdi Birjas will be sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District court for his role in what prosecutors say was a wide-ranging bribery and money laundering scheme at Camp Arifjan.
Prosecutors are recommending a reduced sentence for Birjas, because of his assistance in the investigation.
According to court documents, that investigation has led to 19 convictions so far, including a lieutenant colonel and three majors.
