The Department of Natural Resources wants to close the state's five preserves, but owners say they got approval from a previous administration and have made hundreds of thousands of dollars in investments.
State Representative Matt Ubelhor of Bloomfield says the preserves are good for the economy and serve professionals who don't have the time or the property to do the hunting they want to do.
Opponents say there are plenty of wild deer and people should only be allowed to hunt those.
The committee will hear testimony next week before a vote is taken.
Ubelhor represents a majority of Greene County and portions of Monroe, Martin and Daviess Counties
