Indiana officials are disputing federal figures that say the state's unemployment rate jumped in January.

The government says Indiana's jobless rate rose to 8.6%, up from 8.3% the month before.

But state officials say the federal report used a new and inaccurate formula.

Meanwhile, Hamilton County bumped Dubois County for the lowest jobless rate in the state in January with 6.7 percent.

Dubois County’s unemployment rate was 6.9%, up one percent from December.

Daviess County’s unemployment rate rose from 6.4 to 7.1 percent.

Knox County saw its jobless rate rise from 7.3 to 7.8 percent.

Pike County’s unemployment rate was 9.1 percent in January, up from 8.4 percent in December.

Gibson County’s jobless rate rose from 7.7 to 8.4 percent.

Greene County’s rate was 11.4 percent, up from 9.4 percent in December.

Sullivan County’s unemployment rate jumped from 11.8 percent to 13.3 percent.
