Ralph B. Smith Sr., 66, Aiken, S.C., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Ralph was born on June 26, 1946, in St. Louis to Dr. Ralph O. and Ozeta "Bess" (Beckes) Smith.
He was raised in Vincennes, and graduated from Indiana University in 1968. Ralph spent most of his adult life in Columbus, Ohio, and retired as a senior buyer from Consolidated Stores Corp., after 29 years. Golf, sailing and spending time with his family were among Ralph’s many passions.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Aiken; two daughters, Michelle "Shelly" Claycomb and her husband, Kevin, of Vincennes, and Samantha Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons, Bryan Smith and his wife, Clair, of Brownsburg, and Ralph Smith Jr., and his wife, Stephanie, of Sacramento, Calif.; three brothers, Bryan Smith and his wife, Pam, of Ladson, S.C., Eric Smith and his wife, Sheila, of Evansville, and Joel Smith and his wife, Jackie, of Vincennes; two sisters, Susie Long and her husband, Earle, of Indianapolis, and Sherry Taylor and her husband, Greg, of Vincennes; grandchildren, Nicholas Claycomb and his wife, Kendra, Cameron Claycomb, Ethan Claycomb, Alex Smith, Madeline Smith, Griffin Smith and Liam Smith; and great-granddaughter, Eva Claycomb.
The family will receive friends and relatives at a celebration of life from 4-7 p.m. March 23 at Blossom Hill, formerly Nesbitt’s Orchard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln High School Athletic Department or the American Cancer Society.
