Illinois: Lame Duck Session Fails to Produce Pension Solution

The lame duck session of the Illinois General Assembly ended Tuesday…with no pension reform.

Finding a way to prop up the state's ailing pension systems was a top priority for the governor and legislative leaders…but no deal was reached…and no votes were taken.

Senate President John Cullerton says he's disappointed the house didn't vote on the plan his chamber passed, but says they will try again with a similar version when the new general assembly convenes.

Cullerton says pension reform is a very difficult issue…but thinks they can pass something during the spring session.
