Gibson County Sheriff George Ballard says he will retire at the end of his current term in December of 2014.

Ballard, who started as a deputy in June of 1975, is currently finishing the second year of his 5th term as Gibson County Sheriff.

At the end of his 5th term, Ballard will be 65-years-old and will have served as Sheriff for 20 years.

Ballard says he is in good health and that he wants to spend time traveling and being with his family.
