A bill giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants in illinois is advancing in the state senate.The proposal has bipartisan support and passed a senate committee on a 12 to two vote.
It creates a specially designed driver's license for illegal immigrants that would be good for three years.
The measure is sponsored by Senate President John Cullerton who says it's needed to make Illinois roads safer.
Cullerton says this would affect about 250 thousand people in Illinois.
The bill now moves to the senate floor for a vote.
