James R. “Jimmy” Grey, 60 of Brazil died February 20, 2012. He was born July 16, 1951 in Clay County the son of Warren Grey and Virginia Devlin Grey. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1969. On August 31, 1973 he was united in marriage to Luann Young Grey. He attended Indiana State University and in 1979 he began ownership of Grey’s Automotive Supply. He owned and operated the business until 2009. He stayed on with the business part time for the past 3 years. Jim also had a love for business opportunities. He would look for a “good deal” on buying a house and then do some fixing up and later sell on contract so a family could have a home. He was respected for his knowledge of business and trends in the Brazil area.
You also couldn’t know Jim without knowing about his fascination for bicycles. He was known to collect the unusual and the eye-catching bike. He was also known for his collection of hats and currently had enjoyed seeking out unique automobiles. He also was an avid runner in the past, but lately he had been sticking with walking their newest four –legged friend, Jenny. Yes, we have to also remember his long time friend, Forrest. Forrest was the best trained corgi ever; always at Jimmy’s side. Jim used the phrase that Forrest was his soul mate.
Jim and his family are members of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Brazil Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his father Warren Grey.
Survivors include his wife Luann Grey of Brazil; their daughter Megan Grey Bayler and husband Jared of Terre Haute; his mother Virginia Grey and brother Philip Grey, sister Sue Ann Grey all of Brazil; and a large circle of very close friends and neighbors.
At his request, cremation will take place with a Celebration of his life to be held on Friday at 7:00pm at Lawson-Miller Chapel. Friends may gather from 5-7.
Honorary pallbearers will be Les Miller, Jeff Cope, Jeff Chamberlin, Doug Williams, Harvey Roscoe, John Roach, and Matt Rains.

Debra Lynn Cox, 59 of Brazil passed away at her home February 19, 2012 with her family at her side. She was born May 11, 1952 in Clay County the daughter of Jim Gerber and Mabel Johnson Gerber. She graduated from Van Buren High School, Class of 1970.
On August 25, 1985 she married Delbert R. Cox. He survives.
In the past she worked at Movie Gallery and at the BP Gas station, but for the past several years she has been at home. She loved reading, bird watching and feeding. Plus she enjoyed feeding corn to the squirrels.
She was active in several organizations including, American Legion Post #2, VFW #1127, the Marine Corp League, Clay Youth League. She was very active in the Brazil Moose Lodge and the Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Club.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Mary Johnson and Roy and Ruth Gerber and a step-son, Brian Cox in 1967.
Survivors include her husband Delbert Cox of Brazil; children, Brad Cox, Billie Jo Thompson (Todd) of Brazil, Karen Cass (James) of Brazil, Chris Cox (Lori) of Greenville, S.C., and Barry Cox (Carolyn) of KY; 18 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 5 sisters, Karen Stearley (Eric), Janet Little (Steve), Donna Raines (Jim), Lisa Taylor (Gretta), and Jamie Chrisman (Doug); many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:00pm at the Lawson-Miller Chapel with Pastor Steve Brattain officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 with at tribute from the women of the American Legion Post #2 and VFW #1127 at 6:30 followed by the Women of the Moose Lodge

(Nellie) Louise Brackney, a lifelong resident of Putnam County, died Tuesday, February 21 at Putnam County Hospital with her family by her side. Louise was born on July 11, 1924, to Glenn and Nellie (Bock) Flint.
Louise graduated from Clinton Center High School, where she met her husband John Joe, and continued her studies at Indiana Business College. She went on to support the war effort from Greencastle in the local Rations Office while John served as a Marine in the Pacific.
After John returned home, they married and started Bainbridge Feed and Farm Supply, which later became Brackney's Feed Service. They opened Brackney's Western Store in 1973, and worked side by side from 1955 until their joint retirement in December 1989.
An active member of Brick Chapel United Methodist Church since childhood, Louise served as Treasurer of the church for many years. She served as Memorial's Chairperson and a dedicated volunteer of the Putnam County American Cancer Society. She further supported the organization with the creation of a cookbook in John's memory benefiting cancer research.
In her retirement, Louise became accomplished at needlepoint and continued to perfect her lifelong talent in the kitchen. Her main source of joy came from spending time with her large family.
She is survived by her sisters, Kay McKamey (Bob) and Carolyn Carson (John); her children, Steve (Linda), Darrell (Linda), Keith (Shirley), and Sheila McCullough (Gary); her sister-in-law, Charlotte Wichmann (Paul); brother-in-law, Jack Brackney; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Glenn Flint (Sally), and sister, Marcia Klebusch.
Visitation will be held at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, on Thursday, February 23, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral will be at 11:00 am Friday, February 24, at Brick Chapel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Paul Taylor officiating. Interment to follow at the Brick Chapel Cemetery.
