Vincennes Man Charged in Connection with Overdose of 15-year-old Girl
Charges have been filed against a 20-year-old Vincennes man in connection with the overdose death of a 15-year-old Edwardsport area girl on Easter Sunday.
Van Pek Thang is charged with two counts of Dealing in a Schedule Two Controlled Substance; both class “A” Felonies.
The charges stem from the delivery of Lortabs to two girls, including the girl who died.
Police say the young girl died from Morphine Toxicity.
She also had Hydrocodone and marijuana in her system.
Hydrocodone is an active ingredient in Lortab.
Police are not saying at this time how the Morphine got into her system.
They say that is part of their ongoing investigation.
If convicted, Pek Thang could face between 20 and 50 years in prison.
Pek Thang, a senior at Vincennes Lincoln High School, is already facing a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor in an unrelated case.
Knox County Deputy Prosecutor Hal Johnston says prescription drug abuse in Knox County has become a bigger problem than illegal drugs.
He says the case should send a message to parents to keep their prescription drugs locked up and out of the hands of their children and others..
