University officials say raising the minimum wage in Illinois to ten-bucks-an-hour will take a nice chunk out of their annual budgets. Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard says they’re already dishing out millions in student wages. Poshard says most student workers are earning eight-50-an-hour, which is a quarter higher than the minimum wage. He says increasing the wage to ten-dollars would cost the Carbondale campus another two-million-dollars-a-year. The Edwardsville campus would be out of an extra one-point-two-million-dollars-a year.
