Prefabricated Bridge Considered for Washington Ave, Replacement

Knox County is considering using a prefabricated bridge to replace the aging bridge structure on Washington Avenue in Vincennes.

County Engineer John Sprague says a pre-fab bridge would last longer and cut down on the build time.

He says it would take about two weeks to install compared to the 2-3 months it would take to build a bridge.

Sprague also says a prefabricated bridge requires less maintenance.

The cost for the unit is also comparable to the traditional method.

Officials say they expect the materials to cost about 291-thousand dollars.

County officials are awaiting the results of soil tests before moving forward.
