The Feel of Spring is still in the wings, but the official opening of the Vincennes YMCA Community Gardening Plots is a positive sign. The Y has been offering the space for folks to raise some veggies for a number of years and the little plots can produce a whole lot of eating - and a lot of community. Mix some soil and water from the YMCA and seeds from the planters and the yield is generally enough for the gardeners and many others. Mix the conversation and companionship of the gardeners as they work their sites and you've got what is probably more important than the plants.
It's a neat program - not unique, but being unique is not always what we need. What we need right now is some warm soil, fresh seeds, abundant water, and weed pulling gloves.
