Indiana-School Grades

Republican legislative leaders have named two former state fiscal analysts to review how Indiana's school grading formula was applied.

John Grew and William Sheldrake will assess whether the A-through-F grades handed out last year were given fairly, including whether the formula was improperly manipulated.

The formula has been under scrutiny since the publication of emails indicating a behind-the-scenes debate among then-state superintendent Tony Bennett and staff members on how to rework the calculations so Indianapolis charter school Christel House Academy received an A.

The controversy prompted Bennett's resignation Thursday as Florida education commissioner.
The report is due by Labor Day.
