Indiana National Guard Announces Off-Ramp of Three Units
The planned deployment to Afghanistan of three Indiana National Guard units has been off-ramped.
Ramping off is military parlance for "it's probably not going to happen."
Indiana National Guard Adjutant General Major General Martin Umbarger says the units will be off-ramped from the mission as a result of federal budget cuts.
The three units slated for these missions are the 1st Battalion, 293rd Infantry; 1st Squadron, 152nd Cavalry; and Company D, 113th Combat Support Battalion.
The units were set to deploy in June.
Umbarger says he's deeply troubled by the late timing of the announcement by the Department of Defense and the impact it will have on everyone.
He says our citizen soldiers, families and employers deserve more predictability.
