Indiana American Water has acquired Merom’s municipal water utility in Sullivan County. The purchase of the system adds about 125 customers to the company’s customer base and serves a population of about 250 residents. American Water officials say the acquisition will provide Merom water customers with lower rates and a 24/7 customer service center. The 390-thousand dollar acquisition was approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission in January and finalized by Indiana American Water and Merom Water on Monday. The Merom system will be incorporated into the company’s Terre Haute/Sullivan operating district, which currently serves nearly 85,000 residents.
